After a late departure from home on Saturday and thus a late arrival at the camping site in Thionville, we want to start full of good spirit on our first hiking stage of 2015. We leave the camping site in the morning and go to Mondorf-les-Bains from where we take the bus to Remich. In Remich nothing has changed since we arrived last August: river cruise ships at the quay, a market on the square, the sun....it could have been the day after the last walking day of 2014.

We browse around at the marked and traditionally visit the local bakery for some rolls and we're back on the GR5. It starts (of course) with a steep climb through Remich and then further into the vineyards. So good, just to continue through the vineyards. And of course descend to villages and climb again into the vineyards with beautifull panoramas over the Moselle valley.

A few kilometers north from Schengen this comes to an end, unfortunately. The E2/GR5 splits off the E3 and immediately climbs steeply out of the Moselle valley. At the top the road is suddenly straight and flat through fields of rapeseed and cereal, completely different. Furthermore it appears that Lupita is allergic for rapeseed and at every beautiful yellow field of rapeseed she starts sneezing which is of course very tiresome for her.

After Elvange we walk along a rather busy road until we have passed over the motorway from where we continue over a little road. It is pretty relaxed like this and soon enough we enter Mondorf. There we find an in our eyes ridiculous loop through the park in between small children on steps and bicycles just to pass in between the buildings of the spa and arrive at the bus stop where we started this morning.

All together a relaxed day with 100% tarmac and a weird end. But not bad to start the season.
