I have two great days in Reykjavík where the weather is really good. In town it is 22-23 degrees and I can actually walk around in shorts and T-shirt. Most Icelanders are less amused as they find it far too hot.

On the third day I have to leave to the airport to catch my plane next morning. In spite of my plans to leave in time some friendly English people keep me at the camping site until 4 o’clock in the afternoon. No problem; the weather is great and in spite of head winds I enjoy the ride to Keflavík. The lava field between Hafnarfjörđur and the airport looks far less boring in the plane sun than it did in the fog when I arrived. Instead of going straight to the airport I take the side road to Njarđvík in order to go to the Yttri-Njarđvík youth hostel. It appears it has been shut down as well as much other accommodation there so there is only the camping site in Keflavíik left for me to spend the night. After enjoying the local Pizza 67 it is an early night for me because I have to be at the airport at 5.30 in the morning. I get out of bed at 4.30 so I have enough time to pack my tent. I’m not the only one; one of the other three tents on the whole camping site is being packed as well. It is only a short ride to the airport and I’m well on time. In the evening sitting at my couch at home in Rotterdam it is a strange feeling that I was still packing my tent that very morning in Iceland.
